How Data Syncing Works

Syncing your activity data with Motion Connected (or Healthy Choice for EHP participants) is simple and seamless—so you can focus on your wellness while we take care of the rest. Whether you're using a Garmin, Fitbit, iPhone, or another device, this guide will walk you through how syncing works and how to make sure your data is always up to date.

Quick Overview
Here’s a quick look at how each device syncs once linked:
  1. Garmin & Fitbit: Syncs automatically—no action needed after setup.
  2. Apple Health & Health Connect: Syncs every time you open the Motion Connected (or Healthy Choice) app.
  3. Other Devices: Sync to Apple Health or Health Connect, then update when you open the app.

Garmin and Fitbit Users

Once your Garmin or Fitbit account is linked on the Link Device page in the Motion Connected (or Healthy Choice), your data begins syncing automatically. No manual syncing required, simply wear your device and let the system handle the rest.

How It Works
Here’s the step-by-step process:
  1. You record activity wearing your Garmin or Fitbit device.
  2. Your device sends data to the Garmin/Fitbit app.
  3. Your app then uploads your data to Garmin or Fitbit's servers.
  4. Motion Connected (or Healthy Choice) pulls in that data during the next scheduled sync.
Good to know: Motion Connected typically receives new data from Fitbit and Garmin every 3-4 hours, but in some cases, it may take up to 24 hours. 

Need Help?
If your data isn't showing up, here are a few things to check:
  1. Has it been less than 24 hours since your last sync? 
  2. Can you see your activity data in your Garmin/Fitbit app?
  3. Is your device still linked to Motion Connected (or Healthy Choice) on the link device page?

Apple Health & Health Connect Users

Using Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android)? You're all set to sync with just a tap. Once your connection is set up, data will update every time you open the Motion Connected (or Healthy Choice) app.

Check your connection in a few easy steps:
  1. Open the Motion Connected (or Healthy Choice) app.
  2. Go to Settings (3 dots > Settings).
  3. Ensure that the link to Apple Health or Health Connect is enabled.

Using Another Device?

When using a device beside a Garmin or Fitbit, syncing your data happens in just a few steps, with Health Connect (Android) and Apple Health (iPhone) acting as a bridge:
  1. You record activity wearing your device.
  2. Your device sends data to it's app which then shares it with Health Connect or Apple Health.
  3. That data syncs to Motion Connected each time you open the Motion Connected app.
