Health Connect (Android)

Health Connect (Android)

Starting May 28, 2025 the Motion Connected app for Android will be updated to support Health Connect—Google’s new and improved service for sharing health and fitness data across apps. Designed to replace Google Fit’s data-sharing functionality on newer Android devices, Health Connect offers a more streamlined, reliable, and secure experience for syncing your step and activity data.

While this update is driven by changes from Google, it comes with some great benefits. Android users will be able to connect Motion Connected to a growing number of compatible health apps, making it easier than ever to keep your data in sync.

What You Need to Do

If you joined Motion Connected prior to the update and were syncing data through Google Fit, please follow the steps below to begin using Health Connect:

Step 1: Open the Motion Connected app, go to the Settings page, and enable permissions for Health Connect. View step-by-step instructions here >>

Step 2 (Optional): If you previously used Google Fit to link other devices or apps, the Google Fit app is no longer needed. Most devices (excluding Fitbit, Garmin, and Galaxy watches) should now connect directly to Health Connect.
  1. Linking other Wearables via Health Connect: Follow these steps >>
  2. Samsung/Galaxy watch users: Follow these alternate steps >>

How to Access Health Connect

You can access Health Connect on your Android phone one of two ways:

For phones with Android 14 and up:
1. Open your phone Settings.
2. Tap Security and privacy  > Privacy Controls  > Health Connect.

For phones with Android 13 and lower:
2. Open your phone Settings.
3. Tap Apps > All apps > Health Connect.
4. Tap Open.

Can’t Find Health Connect?

If you have an older Android phone, Health Connect may not be available. In these cases, the Motion Connected app will continue to support a connection with Google Fit while it is still available. However, Google has announced plans to discontinue links to Google Fit by 2026. To ensure uninterrupted tracking and data sharing, we recommend upgrading to a compatible device when possible.

Can I still use Google Fit to track activity with my phone?

Yes! The Google Fit app is still available. However, most users will need to use Health Connect as a middleman to connect Google Fit to Motion Connected. Click the link below for complete instructions.
